Hi, I’m Darin! I’m a software engineer with over 15 years of experience building enterprise-level websites and web applications with most of that time with Fueled (formerly 10up).
Since joining in 2012, I’ve grown from Web Engineer to Associate Director of Open Source Engineering, leading teams that build and maintain high-impact WordPress and WooCommerce solutions for major brands. My work spans PHP and JavaScript development, with experience in React, Node.js, and a growing focus on TypeScript.
I’ve contributed extensively to open source, including WordPress core and several widely used plugins and tools. I’m passionate about advancing the open web through thoughtful engineering, mentoring developers, and helping teams deliver solutions that balance innovation with long-term maintainability.
Recent years have centered on e-commerce, particularly extending WooCommerce to meet complex business needs, as well as an intense focus on AI and how best to integrate that into the publishing workflow. I love helping solve complex problems while collaborating with great people to build something that lasts.

In a recent release, we added support for automatically generating featured images in WordPress (and yes, I did use…
